Our Cosmic Burden - Plinth pair

Some parts of Our Cosmic Burden have been made with pairs in mind. Its just the way that things work out sometimes with ideas. It seems easier to work on more than one piece at a time and for some reason one starts influencing the other so you find yourself trying to balance them out. A sort of conceptual interdependancy. Its not like they cant ever be seperated though. They are like the other figures in the piece. They could be viewed together or seperately. Its kind of nice to think of sculptural pieces being independant and having a character of their own. Their relationship to other pieces then becomes a developing thing within itself.

Part of a larger piece that I intend to show in the Phoenix Open weekend. Lots of little figures carrying things.

Reach for the sky

A sculpture that has started to reach upwards but inevitably started to overbalance so had to have strutts added to stabalise it. I will eventually make one that reaches from floor to ceiling which seems a very small task up to Brancusi but then often gets delayed by me getting preoccupied with other concepts. The title comes from the 50's film with Keneth Moore about Douglas Bader the fighter pilot who during the war had to have his legs confiscated to stop him escaping. Kind of interesting to view a sculpture in this light.
